Louis Snyman: Junior Legal Environmental Consultant

Louis Snyman obtained an Undergraduate Honours Law degree (LLB) from the University of the Witwatersrand and has completed his Postgraduate Master's degree (LLM) in Environmental Law. His thesis focused on the impact of coal mining on agriculture and environmental sustainability in South Africa.
Louis commenced work at IMBEWU in March 2012 and assists the senior consultants with a wide variety of matters. Prior to this, he worked on a part-time basis for the Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) as a research assistant, where he assisted in a Ford Foundation mining project. He completed an environmental law internship through the Association for Water and Rural Development and attended the School for Legal Practice in Johannesburg where he completed the Legal Education and Development Programme (L.E.A.D) in 2011. During this time he worked in the Law Faculty at the University of the Witwatersrand as a Research and Teaching Associate, assisting academic staff as well as tutoring and lecturing constitutional law, with the additional responsibility of preparing and publishing an article in a South African Law Journal.
